Okay. This is all Amy's fault. I swear. And she hasn't even watched Lost. A small scene between Sawyer and Freya that possibly (definitely) will make its way into a longer fic.
Edit: Also?
katarin_moonsta's fault. Since she enables the badness.
“Is there something I can help you with, sweet cheeks?”
The long look he gave me was more than enough explanation of his intentions. I didn’t even bother to look at the mental imagery that went with it.
“Your book. I want to read it.”
A slow grin eased across his face and his drawl became more pronounced. “Is that so? And just what, exactly, are you going to offer me for it?” Another look and a flash of exactly what he would prefer to have in exchange for that book.
“Nothing that you seem to be looking for.”
“And how would you know what I’m looking for?”
I gave him a grin of her own. “It’s very obvious. If you know what you’re looking for. Or, in your case, you pretty much lay it out in the open. And let me tell you, it’s just not going to happen.”
“Playing hard to get. I like that.” You and every other other woman on this damn island. But you’re a feisty little thing. That made me laugh.
“Okay, is there anything I might be willing to do that you’d accept as payment?”
That actually made him stop and think for a minute and I resisted the temptation to sneak a peek. Though it was tempting since the look I was now getting didn’t look even remotely sexual. What could he be thinking? After a minute, he tossed me the book.
“On the house, spitfire. But I plan on collecting at a future date.”
“Then it’s not really on the house, is it? Just on loan.”
He shook his head at me, chuckling. Definitely a hellcat. Must be good in bed, too.
“That’s something you’ll never know, Sawyer,” I said, making sure to emphasize his name. Confused thoughts flicked through his head. Thoughts that I couldn’t help but overhear. Until finally he decided that his intentions were obvious and that I’d just had a lucky guess. I let the assumption stand. I wouldn’t play all my cards quite yet. Who knows what else this island had in store?
