Aug. 9th, 2010 04:34 pmSo, point one about my life recently. I have been sleeping the weirdest schedules. I'll sleep two hours and ten hours later, I'll sleep another six. I'll only get three hours of sleep and still won't be able to go to sleep until two or three and then I'll wake up a few hours later. Today I went to sleep around 3:30am and woke up around 12:30. I stayed awake for about twenty minutes, went back to sleep, and woke up around 4:15pm. Did I mention that in two weeks, I'm going to have to be up reliably and out of the house by about 7:30, 8 am?
Point two is my thesis advisor. Now, because I was in the community college before going to the U of A, I don't know any of the creative writing faculty because I haven't taken any of the earlier classes. This means that I went to the head of the advising department for a little bit of help. I went to him at the end of last fall semester. It took him until about three weeks into the spring semester to get me an advisor to work with. I thought everything was okay. It definitely wasn't.
About a month and a half before the end of the semester, my advisor tells me that he's not going to be here next semester and that I have to find another advisor. Apparently, the head of the advising department knew this already. But trust him, he said, because he was having to rearrange all sorts of people and give them knew advisors because not only is that teacher going to be gone, but he's taking a sabbatical next semester, too. Everything looks to be okay because he keeps saying he'll be on top of it. A few days after my appointment, I get an e-mail reminding me that he's taking care of it and he says he thinks he's going to put me with teacher A. Three days later, I hear I'm going to be with teacher B and think that it's great.
I e-mail teacher B a few times with no response. Finally he answers me saying that he's been waiting on answering back because he only has a finite amount of spots and might have to say no to some people.
My thinking? WTF.
So, I hold off on checking back for a few months and, when I finally do, this is the response:
Did you get any assignment from Advising? I'm checking my roster now, since I believe my two spots have been filled. I honestly have no idea if you are one of them.
I'm just sitting here stunned. The only good thing is that the new director of advising is a teacher I've worked with before, so if there really is a problem, I'll go to him directly and work it out. I just want to kill things. Lots of things.
